Apple’s John Ternus has opened his first product event as CEO, putting new leadership at the center of the company’s biggest annual launch.

The appearance wasn’t Ternus’s first encounter with the media as CEO, but it was his first time presiding over an Apple Event since succeeding Tim Cook on September 1.

Ternus was already a familiar face in Apple presentations after years of introducing hardware. The September event marked his debut as the company’s primary host rather than his first appearance on an Apple stage.

Ternus opened with “It’s great to be here,” then reflected on joining Apple 25 years ago and never imagining that he would one day lead the company.
